Pile – Green and Gray
Released May 3rd, 2019
Pile, the “post-punk/noise-rock” face of the Boston DIY scene, achieved their cult-like measure of indie fame by touring endlessly and doing everything the hard way. Led by singer and creative chief Rick Maguire, they’ve reliably put out a new record once every two years, bringing their current total to seven in the last 12. For this outing there was a lineup change longtime members Matt Becker and Matt Connery have amicably departed, replaced by Alex Molini and former touring guitarist Chappy Hull. Green and Gray, picks up exactly where the band left off. Although the recording process took two full weeks, which is actually a long time for Pile, the surprisingly low production value plagues what would otherwise be a decent enough record.
